01

Pick the time of year you want your Colorado ski elopement

Ski season in Colorado usually runs from late November through early April. The best months for snowy mountain elopements are typically January through March—plenty of snow, longer days, and perfect winter vibes. If you’re dreaming of an alpine first look or champagne toast in the snow, this is your window – but try and avoid school break weeks!

02

Pick the Perfect Colorado Ski Town

There are so many incredible ski towns in Colorado to choose from — each with its own vibe. Check out my blog about choosing the perfect Colorado Resort for your Colorado ski elopement.

All of these towns offer killer skiing and gorgeous ceremony backdrops—perfect for an unforgettable mountain elopement in Colorado. Pick a spot that reflects your vibe and offers the kind of terrain and après-ski options you love.

Aspen – luxury meets alpine adventures
Telluride – remote, romantic, and jaw-droppingly beautiful
Crested Butte -a funky, hidden gem with some seriously fun runs
Silverton – For something a little more extreme, heli-skiing and private back-country tours
Breckenridge – vibrant, laid-back town with fun terrian
Vail – iconic back bowls, and a charming European inspired town

03

Choose Your Ceremony Style

There’s no one way to have a Colorado ski elopement— and that’s the beauty of it.

Say your vows at sunrise on the slopes, then ski your favorite runs together
Dip off into the trees to find an intimate fairy-tale location for your vows.
Ride a lift to the top and maybe embark on a little hike-to for a mountaintop ceremony with views for days
Backcountry elopement, say your vows in the back-country for the ultimate intimate getaway
Cozy up in a cabin or yurt for a snowy, private vow exchange

04

Know the Legal Stuff

One of the coolest things about eloping in Colorado? You can self-solemnize — no officiant or witnesses required. That means you can legally marry yourselves on the ski lift, at the top of the mountain, or in the middle of a powder day.

05

Dress the Part (and Stay Warm)

A ski elopement in Colorado is all about balance: style + function.

Base Outfit:
Classic wedding dress – a&bé is my favorite Denver Bridal Boutique

Chic with a mini (check out this CUTE anthro dress) or midi dress (obsessed with this look from Untamed Bridal)

Funky with a fun snow suit, either classics like white and black keeping to the wedding theme (check out these fun Free People suits. Or really retro like this.

When planning a ski elopement in Colorado, layers are your best friend.! Think about bringing cute mittens, hat, etc.
Opt for wool base layers, fleece-lined tights, heated gloves, heated boot liners
Consider a fun coat, faux fur, or even a custom vegan leather jacket over your wedding attire
Helmets and goggles for the ski run = bonus points for style + safety
Fun sunglasses to look extra cool
Groovy accessories, vails, bows

06

Add Fun, Personal Touches to your Colorado Ski Elopement

Make it uniquely yours with little details that feel true to you.

A champagne toast at the summit
Custom skis or snowboards with your names/date
Après ski with your favorite people
Jump on the ski-characuterie trend
Hot toddies, s’mores, and a romantic catered dinner at your AirBnB

07

Inviting Family & Friends?

A ski or snowboard elopement offers lots of opportunities to include your favorite people.

Get ready with your favorite people at your vacation rental & have a yummy pancake breakfast
After your vows, join your friends and family for ski runs
Host an apres ski the night before or the night of your wedding with all of your favorite people
Rent a room at a restaurant or bring in a caterer to your airbnb and host
Snuggle by a fire together late night and read cards from your loved ones

08

Decide on accommodations.

The village and towns at every ski mountain are different and sometimes non-existent forcing you to drive in from another town. It is important for you and your partner to think about what is the most important to you when choosing accommodations. Perhaps you desire staying at a luxury hotel with 5 star amenities, a cozy cabin with ski-in/ski-out access, or a camper van to chase the best powder.

Do you want easy access to a town or village?
Will you want to rent a car or do you need direct access to the mountain?
Importance of luxury amenities, every couple is looking for different perks in accommodations – find out what is important to you from on-location food options, in house spa, valet services, on site bar, room service, pool and hot tub access, romantic fire place, ski-in/ski-out access, a private kitchen, a soaking tub etc.
Do you want to be able to have a private chef come in or perhaps family members for an intimate dinner? Is having space and privacy important?
Based on your priorities, decide if a cozy ski chalet or cabin vs. a hotel would be the best fit for you.

09

Selecting Vendors

When choosing vendors for your elopement it is crucial to think about what is important to you! If we work together, I will recommend specific vendors based on your location – but here are some options to consider:

Do you want florals: a bouquet a boutonniere?
Do you want hair and/or make up for your big day?
Do you want a specific desert? Cake, brownies, cupcakes, whoopie pies?
Do you want to consider a catering option: from an in home chef, to a luxury picnic, or a private room at an upscale restaurant?

10

Select Additional Activities for your Colorado Elopement

In a ski town there is a lot to do merging your elopement into your dream honeymoon. In addition to resort skiing at your elopement, consider adding additional activities:

Go to a spa
Ski tour in the back country
Nordic Ski (cross-country)
Go ice skating or ice fishing
Go tubing
Attend a wine tasting
Go horseback riding
Rent snow mobiles
Go snow shoeing
Heli-ski
